Who was Pete Radocha?
To some, he was "Sweet Pete" Rad or Wild man Pete.
He was a brother, son, grandson, and trusted friend.
He lived in Allentown for all of his short life, was involved with the Allentown playgrounds for over 10 years, attended Raub Middle School and Allen High School. He participated in baseball, basketball, and football in various city youth leagues and also at the high school level. He was honored in sports with too many awards to mention here. Unfortunately, Pete's life ended tragically in July of 1992 in a car accident, along with his girlfriend, and soul mate, Debbie Steele. Most people know about his sports accomplishments, but there was more to him than that.
From the time he was a baby, Pete was full of life and had a great positive energy. He was outspoken: if you ever needed an honest opinion, he was the person to go to. He never hesitated to tell you what he thought. Although he wanted everyone to like him, he was not someone who would compromise his beliefs or hurt someone else in order to be accepted. In turn, he became an example. An example for his family, the little boys and girls on the playground who looked up to him, and for his fellow students and teammates. Pete stood for hard work, honesty, sportsmanship and although he was a mountain of a man, he always had a soft spot for the "little guy". When Pete was playing basketball in the cadet leagues, he was the biggest kid out there (as usual), but one day when a very small boy on the other team was put in for the last few minutes of a game, Pete told his teammates: "If the little guy gets the ball, let him shoot".
Our family continues to miss Pete everyday, but we feel a strong dedication to the Allen High School Athletic Programs, as Pete did. We wanted to preserve his memory where he would want to be remembered-- on the playing field. If Pete were here today, I'm sure he would be coaching, playing, and giving back to the sports he loved.
We would like to thank the Lenhart family for all of their hard work and dedication to the Allen athletic programs and for starting the Pete Radocha Memorial Fund. We treasure the fact that Pete is remembered in such a positive way.
